" I would like to take the time to tell you how valuable Santa Cruz Core has been to me. Since I have found them and Jay, my now only personal massage therapist, they have helped me tremendously with work related issues and are currently helping me come off a sports related injury. In my opinion, Jay is the best of the best. His insight, experience, and knowledge of the human body are of immeasurable value. Jay has helped my hands and arms through deep tissue massage and is currently helping me regain mobility in my shoulder from a sports related injury. I look forward every time to my appointment with Jay."
Thanks you Jay and Santa Cruz Core!"

What modalities of massage does Santa Cruz CORE offer?
CORE MASSAGE
CORE Massage- All massage therapists at Santa Cruz CORE Fitness + Rehab are trained to perform the CORE massage. It is a massage designed to reduce stress and promote relaxation. CORE massage employs a combination of Classic massage and traditional Swedish strokes and techniques, using light to firm pressure to affect the superficial tissues of the body.
DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE
In deep tissue massage the therapist does not use oil or cream as in a Swedish massage, but instead will use a stickier substance such as beeswax so that hooking into the fascia is facilitated. The therapist doesn’t just glide over the muscle but rather anchors into it. The therapist will move very slowly, working at an oblique angle to stretch the fascia and connective tissues. This often can feel like a quite intense burning sensation. Fists, knuckles, and elbows are used to work firmly into the muscle. In deep tissue work there is great potential for more lasting change and healing of injuries.
SPORTS MASSAGE
More upbeat & vigorous focusing on recovery from tissue fatigue & increasing ease of movement and range of movement w/stretching & some specific Deep Tissue work
STRUCTURAL BODYWORK
TRIGGER POINT THERAPY MASSAGE
Helps to relieve muscle tension and musculoskeletal pain due to hyperirritable spots in skeletal muscle presenting itself as palpable nodules in taut bands of muscle fibers. The pain felt is usually referred to a different area in the body than the area where the “knot” or “nodule” resides.
INJURY REHAB MASSAGE
Orthopedic massage w/focus on rehabbing from common injury, musculoskeletal trauma, pre/post op.
Focuses on re-structuring and re-patterning the musculoskeletal system to achieve balance & optimum efficiency in mobility & stability
MYOFASCIAL RELEASE MASSAGE
Slow massage strokes used to release adhesions & restrictions between the muscle & fascia tissues of the body. Helps to reduce pain & increase range of motion
SCAR TISSUE THERAPY MASSAGE
Some techniques used for the reduction and removal of Scar Tissue are Heat Application, Lubrication of the scar, Manual Lymph Drainage, Myofascial Release, Cross Fiber Friction, Stretching, 2. Scar Tissue Therapy w/Cold Laser: The goal of laser therapy is to deliver light energy units from infrared laser radiation, called photons, to damaged cells. The photons absorbed by the cells through laser therapy stimulate the mitochondria to accelerate production of ATP. This biochemical increase in cell energy is used to transform live cells from a state of illness to a stable, healthy state.
THERAPEUTIC REFLEXOLOGY: FEET, HANDS + SCALP MASSAGE.
Therapeutic Reflexology applies pressure to specific points on the feet, hands and scalp to influence the health of corresponding parts of the body. "Pressure sensors" on the hands and feet particularly connect with different parts of the body, and as reflexology techniques stimulate these sensors, waves of relaxation are sent throughout the body to aid health, encourage relaxation, prevent disease, reduce stress and improve quality of life.
SPA & SPECIAL NEEDS MASSAGE
Aromatherapy is the therapeutic use of essential oils from plants for the improvement of physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. Applied to the skin directly or mixed in a carrier oil. Can also be used in a compress or can be diffused into the air. The odors from the oils can produce specific effects on human neuropsychological and autonomic function and can influence mood, perceived health, arousal, and have therapeutic applications in the context of stressful and adverse psychological conditions.
PRENATAL MASSAGE
CMT’s have received training beyond the national standards for massage therapists and know how to address specific pregnancy needs and sensitive areas of the body. Prenatal Massage addresses different needs through varying techniques with aims to relax muscle tension and improve lymphatic and blood circulation through mild pressure applied to the muscle groups of the body.. Benefits of prenatal massage include Hormone regulation, Reduction of swelling, Improvement of nerve pain, Reduced back pain, Reduced joint pain, Improved circulation, Reduced edema, Reduced muscle tension and headaches, Reduced stress and anxiety, Improved oxygenation of soft tissues and muscles, Better sleep
Asian Bodywork:
SHIATSU MASSAGE
Shiatsu is Japanese for "finger pressure"; it is a type of alternative medicine, Massage, consisting of finger and palm pressure, stretches, and other massage techniques. It as a way to help people relax and cope with issues such as stress, muscle pain, nausea, anxiety, and depression. Shiatsu is usually performed on a futon mat, with clients fully clothed but there are adaptations for performing Shiatsu on a massage table.
Shiatsu massage is based on traditional Chinese medicine. Acupressure is used to open the flow of energy along the meridians to promote healthy balance in the body. This can help ease a variety of physical and emotion ailments while affecting deep relaxation. The meridians also tend to run along major muscle groups so it is great for relieving general tension or soreness.
THAI MASSAGE:
Thai massage is a type of massage in Thai style that involves stretching and deep massage. This form of bodywork is usually performed on the floor, and the client wears comfortable clothes that allow for movement. No oils are used in Thai massage. There are adaptations for performing Thai massage on a massage table. A Thai massage session typically lasts 1 ½ to 2hours long but can be adapted to the one hour massage format, and includes rhythmic pressure, pressing and stretching of the entire body; The practitioner utilizes finger palm, forearm, elbow, knee, feet, and head pressure to perform the massage…
